A long road to a college degree

Donald C. Krechel’s education was interrupted several times, first for World War II and then for the war in Korea. He attended Mizzou from 1947 to 1950, but didn’t graduate. While at Mizzou, he met and married Sally Glaves, his wife of 60 years. They started a family: Patsy Krechel, BS ’71, M Ed ’74, born in 1949; Kay Krechel Batt, born in 1951; and Debbie Krechel Aliperti, BS Ed ’76, born in 1953.
Patsy Krechel knew it would be meaningful for her father to complete his degree. When she read about the University of Missouri’s Recruit Back project in the winter 2008 issue of MIZZOU, she worked toward that goal. Recruit Back helps former students with 100 or more credit hours complete their degrees.
For her dad’s 84th birthday in late April, Patsy Krechel presented him with a bachelor of general studies diploma.
