Top athlete, top scholar
Although Chase Daniel’s eligibility for the Heisman Trophy is the subject of much speculation (see the slideshow below for a look at the football Tigers on the field), few are aware of his selection as a finalist for the Draddy Trophy, or so-called academic Heisman.
The Draddy Trophy is awarded to a senior or graduate student who has a GPA of at least 3.2, is a starter and demonstrates leadership. All finalists receive an $18,000 scholarship for postgraduate studies. The winner, announced Dec. 9., 2008, will receive an additional $7,000.
