Further setting its reputation as a place for scholarship, MU’s School of Law filled an endowed chair for the first time, naming Professor Thomas Lambert the Wall Chair in Corporate Law and Governance.

The chair was created with a $1.57 million gift, announced Sept. 26, 2013, from the Nancy and Charles Wall Family Foundation. The endowment will help the school attract and retain top faculty.

Charles Wall, JD ’70, of Aspen, Colo., a retired vice chair and general counsel for Altria, chairs the New York City Opera.

Other recent gifts to MU include:

  • $1.3 million from Michael L. Avery of Mission, Kan., given Sept. 25, 2013, for the Trulaske College of Business Applied Learning Center;
  • $2 million from Mike Otten of Lee’s Summit, Mo., given Sept. 20, 2013, to the Tiger Scholarship Fund; and
  • $1 million from an anonymous donor given Sept. 11, 2013, to the Col. Dwight B. Schannep U.S. Army Air Corps Veterans Scholarship Fund.
